Charlie will have a craniotomy and attempted tumor recession at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The surgeon will collect a biopsy which will give us a true diagnosis, although those results will not be available for several days.
Surgery is scheduled for 7:30am and is expected to last 6-8 hours.
8am: Charlie is in the OR.
10am: Charlie is prepped and the surgeon is starting the main part of the surgery now.
3pm: Charlie’s surgery is completed and he is in the PICU recovering. The surgeon was able to remove just enough of the tumor to send for biopsy. Further tumor recession was not possible today because the surgeon needs the biopsy results to really know what we’re facing. These results will take up to a week to get back, and is what we need for a true diagnosis which will direct further steps.
