Charlie was born with a rare metabolic disease that prevents his body from breaking down amino acids found in protein. Without proper treatment, those amino acids quickly become toxic and can cause brain damage. he has also been diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumor – two unrelated conditions believed to have never been seen together.
Charlie is the son of Zane and Brittney Harper, and grandson of Karla and the late John McBride and Debbie and Terry Harper.
